The Ayer Recycling Committee’s spring cleanup event, A Cleaner Ayer, is taking a big leap forward, expanding from one day of coordinating a townwide effort to collect waste and recyclables to two days: Saturday and Sunday, May 3 and 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Laurie Sabol, Recycling Committee chairwoman, notes, “We review the event every year to look for ways to increase participation, and we heard from many residents that they would love to help, but find that they’ve often had conflicting events when there was just one cleanup day. So this year, we’re offering a second day in the hopes that residents who can’t make it out to help clean up on one day can on the other.”

Volunteers, whether groups or individuals, can pick up bags and gloves and let Recycling Committee members know what locations around town they plan to clean up anytime after 9 a.m. on both days at Depot Square. When finished, they can drop bags back at the same spot. For information or to volunteer, contact Laurie Sabol at 978-496-5839 or via email at
